Our Parish Van is utilized, not only in bringing parishioners to Mass on Sunday, but to provide rides for volunteers to different service areas.
SUPPORT GROUPS Are a vital part of ParIsh Social Ministry. They vary as need and interest are expressed. WELCOMING MINISTRY Welcoming ministry extends personal contact with all parishioners. This ministry also provides Greeters at all weekend masses. OUTREACH Ministry to the Larger Community CHARITIES COMMITTEE As the direct service arm of social ministry, this committee evaluates needs and distributes funds raised in the parish to the wider community. K.I.C.S. - Kids Involved in Community Service It's a new and exciting, one-of-a-kind, program started at our very own Church of the Holy Spirit as a result of the Engagement Team for Children. K.I.C.S. (pronounced "kicks") purpose is to involve the entire family in parish and community volunteer service projects. K.I.C.S works together with Holy Spirit's Parish Social Ministries and community organizations such as Volunteer Memphis/Hands on Memphis to provide volunteer opportunities in which the entire family can take part. We are also hoping that extended families (kids with their grandparents, aunts, uncles or neighbors) will join us. Your family can make a difference, even if you can only participate in one project a year. Getting a child involved early in volunteering just might make it a way of life for that same child as an adult. As parents, is anything more important then teaching our children that giving to others allows God to work through them in order to give others hope? Please contact Tami Salvaggio for more information or to be included in future email volunteer opportunities at 624-1171 or at MyKICS@excite.com. PSM ADVISORY COMMITTEE The PSM Advisory committe is a consultative body with the role of advising and assisting the Parish Social Ministry Director in areas needed to fulfill the mission.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Operates as an ecumenical group whose ministry is to build homes for the poor on a no-interest loan basis. HAITI MEDICAL MISSION OF MEMPHIS Health care workers from our parish, concerned about the deplorable medical conditions in Haiti, established this global outreach in 1997. With the support of the Holy Spirit parish annual fund raising event, the multi-faceted "24-Hour tour D'Esprit", a permanent medical clinic has been constructed, located on the grounds of the St. Charles Seminary in Croix deBouquet, Haiti. The clinic is now fully operational. Technical, medical and medical support groups travel to Haiti on a regular basis to maintain the clinic and provide on-site medical care to Haitians in other impoverished areas of the country. HISPANIC MINISTRY Provides resources, both spiritual and physical, for the needs of the Spanish speaking people in the Hispanic community. HOLY NAMES/HOLY SPIRIT TWINNING Formalizes the experience of connecting with a parish in a different ethnic and economic culture. This program offers opportunities to our parishioners to facilitate our outreach efforts by providing material assistance as well as hands on personal contact. Holy Spirit parishioners support the Holy Names Clothes Closet, Food Pantry , Soup Kitchen and other programs in the Holy Names community. Holy SpirIt funds the part time position of a Social and Health Coordinator to work with the people of the community. It is our hope that this "twinning' will involve us in a relationship that honors the gifts and opportunities for growth, for Holy Spirit and Holy Names. JAIL MINISTRY The Jail MinIstry conducts prayer services the second, fourth and fifth Saturday of each month at the Shelby County Jail. The ministry works closely with the Chaplain's Office in providing bibles, reading glasses, toilet articles, etc., to the inmates. REFUGEE MINISTRY In cooperation with Catholic Charities Refugee Services, our volunteers work with the Refugees who have made Memphis their home. Camp Friendship, a day camp to promote cultural awareness, is held at our parish each summer. SOCIAL ACTION |
