ALTAR SOCIETY
The Altar Society consists of parishioners who care for the sacred vessels, the altar linens and the main altar furnishings. Some of the work is done on a scheduled basis and some as needed. Please phone the parish office, 754-7146, if you would like to assist. COMMUNION SERVICES Communion Services are held daily (except Sundays) in the Chapel at 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. These services are led by Deacons or Lay Ministers. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist both at Sunday & weekday Masses and also in distributing Holy Communion to the sick in their homes, nursing homes and hospitals. Training for Ministers of Holy Communion who serve at Mass is provided by the Diocesan Institute of Liturgy and Spirituality. Training for Ministry to the Sick and Homebound is provided by the Diocesan Office for Community Health Ministry. Please contact the parish office if you are interested in applying for this ministry. GREETERS Parishioners are encouraged to serve as greeters at Sunday Masses, welcoming both visitors and parishioners to the Liturgy. This is a service that can be done as a family. Please contact the parish office if you would like to serve in this way. MINISTERS OF THE WORD (LECTORS) Lectors proclaim the sacred Scriptures, both at daily & Sunday Masses and also at other liturgical and para-liturgical events. The Diocesan Institute of Liturgy and Spirituality provides training for Lectors. Please call the parish office if you are interested in applying for this ministry. MASS COORDINATORS Parishioners assist in setting up for liturgies, both daily and on Sundays. In addition to preparing the liturgical books and vessels, they prepare the altar breads and wine for consecration, ensure a sufficient number of Eucharistic Ministers, coordinate the presence of Lectors and altar servers, in addition to other duties. While not requiring a diocesan course, this important role requires an apprenticeship with experienced Coordinators. Contact one of them in the sacristy before or after Mass if you are interested. MUSIC Do you like to sing? We are looking for people who feel called to use their musical talents to serve the Lord and share the love of Christ with others. Join our fellowship and witness the impact this ministry has on people’s lives. You will be blessed, too.
PENANCE SERVICES (COMMUNAL RECONCILIATION) Holy Spirit schedules communal Penance Services during Advent and Lent, and occasionally at other times. Additional Confessors join our priests for a time of sung praise, Scripture readings, communal expression of sorrow, concluding with the opportunity for individual Confession. ROSARY GROUP A group prays the Rosary daily (except Sunday) following the 8:00 a.m. Mass. For those who can stay, there are additional devotions and the praying of the Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours. SERVERS Young parishioners assist in the sacred Liturgy by acting as Mass servers. They may begin in the fourth grade and serve as long as they desire. Special training sessions are held each fall, and periodic gatherings of servers allow them to deepen their expertise. Please call the office if you are interested in this area of service. USHERS The corps of ushers helps to welcome all to Sunday Masses, assists parishioners in seating, oversees comfort in the worship space, expedites the collection, and assists with any physical difficulties, among other duties. Please call the office if you are interested in becoming an usher. |
