The Church of the Holy Spirit believes that young people are an important, integral part of our parish community. Youth Ministry begins with JAM (Junior Activities Ministries) for our 6th, 7th and 8th graders, and continues through the high school years with the YPA (Young People’s Association). Teens have fun in a nurturing environment that encourages them on their faith journey. There are many opportunities for spiritual growth in our parish and in the broader community.
Junior Activities Ministries (JAM)
These activities are open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders of the parish, not just those enrolled in PRE or Confirmation Preparation. Activities include parish service opportunities (Wednesday Nite Supper clean-up, assisting at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, and the Haiti Tour d’Esprit race), devotional gatherings (“Prayer, Pizza and Movie” nights and attending Mass at other parishes), and social outings (bowling, Incredible Pizza Company, and a summer trip). Make sure to look in the weekly bulletin and on the Jr. High Bulletin Board for upcoming JAM activities.
YPA (Young People’s Association)
YPA meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM during the school year. All high school youth are welcome. YPA is led by the Director of Youth Ministry, who is assisted by selected teens known as the Youth Ministry Advisory Board (YMAB) and the Youth Ministry Adult Team.
Socializing - Through our social events such as game nights, Laser Tag, camping at Chickasaw State Park, “Coffee House,” winter ski trip, summer canoe trip, swim parties, softball and volleyball teams, our youth develop friendships for a lifetime.
Spirituality - Faith-sharing is a major part of Youth Ministry. Opportunities include youth-led discussions, prayer services, encouragement for serving as Liturgical Ministers, guest speakers, and other activities here at the parish. Through Diocesan events, the youth actively participate in the larger faith community. Holy Spirit youth participate in the Quest (9th & 10th grade) and Search (11th & 12th grade) retreats, and the Diocesan Youth Celebration (DYC).
Service - “Being the hands of Christ” is stressed for high school youth, who volunteer in the Parish (PRE assistants, Camp Friendship, Haiti Tour d’Esprit race) and in the wider community through the Youth Service League and Catholic HEART Workcamp.
